ABOUT US
Associação Amigos dos Animais (AdA) was established in 2019 when it took over the operational management of the MAPS (Maputo Animal Protection Society) shelter facility in Maputo to ensure the ongoing care for domestic animals that are badly neglected, abused, and abandoned.
Currently, Animal Protection Laws in Mozambique are not enforced, there is No Association or Framework for Ethical Breeding, and No large scale Animal Care Facility that can cope with the high volume of animal rescues and demand for animal care.

Before & After
The Challenges we are facing.
Associação Amigos dos Animais (AdA) operates a temporary animal shelter located at the Faculdade Veterinária UEM (Universidade Eduardo Mondlane) in Junta Maputo - relying on very poor infrastructure and facilities.
Shelter space is limited to (14) inside kennels, (10) outside shared fenced kennels, (1) covered open cattery, (3) single quarantine catteries - permanently up to its maximum occupancy capacity.
The current shelter lacks basic amenities such as an office, laundry, grooming, treatment room, kitchen, and even toilets - making it very difficult for The Team, visitors and volunteers – limiting the ability to receive scholars for educational training.
Why It Matters Now.
The current shelter landlords are unable to make more space available to Associação Amigos dos Animais (AdA) for expansion to establish essential amenities, and the lease is granted on a temporary short-term basis.
Associação Amigos dos Animais (AdA) needs to establish a new shelter “that it owns” to set the foundation for the larger and self-sustainable facility it will develop.
